First off, I made this a couple of days ago. I’ve already posted it on the MSPAforums, and I was going to post it here with the next thing, but that ended up taking way longer then I expected.
A cruxtruder! Some one’s tried to stop the timer by putting the lid back on, but it won’t help. (Is it just me or are the number’s reflections not mirrored properly? Weird.)
Anyway, I’ve been meaning to properly try 3D modelling a person, but I’ve been putting it off because my first attempt still haunts my nightmares and I knew it was always going to be like playing atari ET with the uncanny valley. Regardless, I’ve tried and after pretty much two days work I have a head to show for it.
I made Rose Lalonde from Homestuck of course, as she’s pretty much the first person I draw when I want to try a different technique, or medium, or haven’t drawn in a while, or just feel like it.
Doesn’t quite look as I intended from the side. I’m a little unsure how to make the eyes not be really flat from one angle without squishing the eyeballs. I presume it can be done, but I’ve no idea how. Nose isn’t the right shape either.
Continuing on my list of things I’m unhappy with, the hair doesn’t poof out as much as I envisioned, mostly because when I tried to make it do so the shadows where all weird. It might work a little better if I had several layers of hair…
Bizarrely, the eyes look a lot different when rendered with the settings on max. They don’t look as much like weird robot camera eyes as they did on preview settings, but they also look a little bland.
Also her hair looks like its made of lasagne sheets.
Aaand the concept art I used. No retrieve arms jokes please.
Anyway, next up is tweaking the hair some more, creating a body, creating clothes, creating a texture, rigging… This stuff is a slow process.
